On Sunday, February 19th, 2017 from 1:00-2:00 the PCA will be hosting Artist Talks with Bryna Brashier, Patricia Kennedy-Zafred and Gerry Florida, the Jurors Choice Award recipients of The New Collective 2016, and learn about their individual practices as artists. A $5 donation is appreciated.
Bryna Brashier is a Pittsburgh native who has been active in various art scenes for over 30 years. Her 50 page tutorial, On Ceramic Sculpture and Pottery as Art and Craft, can be found in the library of her alma mater Chatham University.
Patricia Kennedy-Zafred has been telling stories through the medium of textiles and art quilts for over twenty years. Her prize winning work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and has been published in books and magazines throughout her career, most recently Artistry in Fiber (Schiffer Publishing, 2017).
Kennedy-Zafred’s work has been accepted into many major juried exhibitions and most recently received the Purchase Award from the State Museum of Pennsylvania for Art of the State 2016.
Gerry Florida is an award-winning assemblage artist who refers to herself as a "Master of Imperfection”. Her creations deliver underlying messages of rebirth, recovery and reclamation through an array of salvaged, recycled and contemporary materials that she employs in work. Her intrigue with the “beauty of imperfection” has led her to work on behalf of at-risk populations locally and nationally fostering the belief that integrating failures, accepting imperfections and embracing differences is the path to living in harmony with the imperfections surrounding us and to living in sync with the real world and the one we can create.
