In this documentary filmmaking course students explore and express their very personal climate stories: What kind of changes am I seeing in my surroundings? What does it mean to be a human being in our time when life itself is becoming endangered? Who do I choose to be amid this change, what kind of a legacy do I want to leave behind? During this course, documentary filmmaker and climate educator Kirsi Jansa will demonstrate the basics of visual storytelling and guide participants to produce a short documentary of their personal climate story. During the eight sessions, participants will explore and discover their personal stories, develop a storyboard of their story, film the story using their iPhones or iPads, and edit their films with iMovie. Students will have the opportunity to share their work with friends and family in a classroom forum.
