Women of Visions, Inc., founded in 1981 and incorporated in 1995 as a nonprofit, was formed to recognize the art of African-American women, providing exhibition opportunities, mentoring, and professional development in the arts not easily obtainable or available. The members of Women of Visions, Inc. represent a diverse sampling of artistic styles including ceramics, collage, digital arts, fiber arts, installation art, jewelry, mixed-media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. The organization mounts collaborative shows with other arts groups and individuals, and builds relationships to create visibility both in Pittsburgh and beyond.
The sankofa bird symbolizes the Akan people’s quest for knowledge with the
implication that the quest forward is based on critical examination, and intelligent
and patient investigation of the past.
