Organized by The Documentary Works, Marcellus Shale Documentary Project: An Expanded View (MSDP) features new photography and video works by Noah Addis, Nina Berman, Brian Cohen, Scott Goldsmith, Lynn Johnson, Martha Rial, and Joe Seamans, and graphics by FracTracker Alliance. Co-curated by Brian Cohen and Laura Domencic, MSDP documents the social and environmental effects of natural gas drilling in the region.

This collaboration began in the fall of 2011.  The first exhibit opened at Pittsburgh Filmmakers and went on to travel to venues across Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio and West Virginia. The story of gas exploration in and around Pennsylvania has expanded over the past four years, and the team has continued to follow these developments. The results form the core of a new exhibit.  Along with the work of the original six photographers, the work will include dynamic graphics that dig down into the numbers behind the shale gas exploration, and a 20-foot gigapan print of a rural Pennsylvania landscape in gas country. Educational programs and public forums will also complement the exhibit. Funding for this phase of the project was made possible by The Heinz Endowments and The Pittsburgh Foundation.
