Dialogue through Drawing

As an engaged couple, Katie and Rachel are a pair of visual thinkers and makers. The couple communicates through a variety of methods (physical, verbal and visual) to express their thoughts, feelings, and intentions. From early on in their relationship, they have employed conversation drawing to dialogue with one another. During the process no words are spoken as a deep, quiet, meditative like connection unfolds. In regard to the current exhibition, this practice served as the foundation for their sculptural prints. The process encouraged an intuitive exchange of emotion, utilizing the arts as a vehicle for dialogue and personal awareness.

About the artists:

Katie Rearick graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 2012, with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Metal. Her work ranges from small-scale body adornment to large sculptural installations that utilize personal narrative as a starting point. Currently Katie teaches at Waynesburg University, PCA and Contemporary Craft.

With a BFA in Printmaking and an MPA, Rachel Saul is a native of the Pittsburgh region. Her primary body of work consists of monotypes, where through her intuitive process she works to evoke emotion through the use of color. Currently Rachel serves as the Assistant Director/Education at Contemporary Craft.
