Becky Keck

Ceramicist
My first independent firing was simple. I dug clay from the creek bed on my family farm, pinched pots, put them in a cast iron pot in a hole in the ground. Added sawdust, wood, manure, and lit it on fire. That was 1999. I'm still at it.

As a teaching artist I strive to impart that passion for learning and experimentation to my students by showing the connection between the technology of the past and present and how available resources impact the design choices we make as artists ans individuals.

My studio is located south of Pittsburgh along the mighty Monongahela River in Greensboro, Greene County, PA.

As a Resident Artist for the Pittsburgh Filmmakers/ Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Department of School and Community Programs, I am honored to be able to bring my passion for the art and science of ceramics to the community. I love my job. While participating in the History Days event at the Greene County Museum third graders were able to connect maps showing where the Monongahela people lived, participate in a pottery making demonstration and see an actual pit firing in progress.

As an instructor at Greensburg Arts Center, I am bringing arts to South Western Pennsylvania. I love my job.

As a working studio artist, I am complete.

Work is for sale at Arts Mon on High St.in Morgantown, WV... Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Gift Shop in Shadyside...and Marty's Market on Smallman St., Pittsburgh, PA.
