Artists in Schools & Communities at PCA&M organizes and facilitates creative arts experiences in a variety of diverse settings that occur off of our Shadyside campus. These include the Arts in Education Partnership Artist Residency Program, as well as Community Festivals in the Pittsburgh region, Professional Development workshops for educators, Career Days at local schools and more.

Our programs and projects are designed to have lasting benefits for all participants: students are fully immersed in an art form and see how it connects to life and learning, teachers are exposed to alternative ways of experiencing and sharing the creative process and what it brings to their classrooms, administrators realize the ways in which the arts fully engage students and impact their learning across the curriculum, artists experience growth in their artforms and value the ability to inform and inspire future generations and community members participating in creative processes.

In-School Programs

Artist Residency Program

Through our partnership with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts’ Arts in Education Division, Pittsburgh Center for Arts & Media (PCA&M) offers Artist Residency Projects and other vital arts services to schools, community organizations, and nonprofit service agencies working with both children and adults in Allegheny, Beaver, Greene, and Washington counties.

Longtime partner PPS Beechwood PreK-5 shares that the Residency Program has transformed our school into a student museum reflecting the different cultures of our school as well as features of our community. Each May the project culminutes in a community and school celebration, Nationality Night. Over 600 families and friends attend this annual event to enjoy student musical performances and visit the displays created by Beechwood students.

Check out other recent residency projects on our Project Highlights page.
